One intresting place to look at is hackaday and the digital camera hacks .There are plenty of intresting hacks to read.If you into timelapse then you might need an Intervalometer I just got one from ebay for £28 from this chap Tree-Koala-Camera-Accessories-SHOP .There are other timer and triggers around such as
Camera axe or
the cheap rough and ready you could always use a relay timer from maplin
.As you can see there are many types of timer and triggers
But one intresting trigger I found was the Lighting trigger thet triggers your camera when there is a bolt of lightning
